Practical information about Utrecht

Public transport

Utrecht Central Station is the most important railway junction in the Netherlands and has direct train connections to all but three other provincial capitals (with the exception of Lelystad, Haarlem and Middelburg). The city of Utrecht has a very extensive bus line network. The bus station near Utrecht Central Station is the largest bus station in the Netherlands. Buses run to Maarssen, Vleuten / De Meern and Kockengen. Most buses run every 10 minutes Monday through Saturday, and every 15 minutes in the evening and on Sunday. Utrecht is the first city in Europe to use double articulated buses. The Utrecht express tram, runs from the central station via Kanaleneiland to Nieuwegein-zuid / IJsselstein.

Transport by car

Utrecht can be reached via the motorways enclosed on three sides. The A2 is to the west of the city, the A12 to the south and the A27 to the east. Important traffic junctions are Oudenrijn, Lunetten and Rijnsweerd. A fourth motorway, the A28, starts from the last traffic junction. North of Utrecht, the ring road is closed by the N230. These roads together form the Ring Utrecht. It can be very busy around Utrecht on working days.

Tip: If you want no crowds, traffic jams, parking stress or high parking. You park your car at one of the Utrecht P & R locations. These offer quick, easy and inexpensive bus or tram to the city center. For more information on http://www.slimutrechtin.nl/
