Scheveningen is the most popular seaside resort in the Netherlands, where you can have a lovely time both in the summer and the winter. As well as the wide beach and the charming promenade, this seaside resort has a wide range of attractions and museums, such as the Casino, the Circustheater musical theatre, a large cinema complex, the renovated Pier and an indoor shopping mall. In other words, Scheveningen is not just a place to relax on the beach, but it has plenty of other activities to offer.

Scheveningen is renowned for its impressive Kurhaus hotel and its beach, but there are many more things to enjoy in this charming seaside resort. There are various museums and places of interest, so certainly plenty of opportunity to experience some culture. If you like good food, you will certainly appreciate Scheveningen, with its various restaurants, including many fish restaurants. During your stay in this favourite coastal resort, pay a visit to the court-capital, The Hague.

The beach is very popular both in the summer and winter, where there are plenty of beach pavilions and outdoor cafés. For spectacular views of the sea, take a walk along the Pier, where you will come across all kinds of shops on your way. If you prefer peace and quiet, you can walk in a northerly direction to the Zwarte Pad path, which has boards laid across the sand for easy access to the beach for wheelchairs and prams. For surfing, horse riding and kite flying, Scheveningen is the place to choose.

Scheveningen forms part of the city of The Hague and is located in Zuid-Holland. Scheveningen is easy to reach by public transport and by car, and has several car parks.

On the promenade you will find Sea Life, with a large aquarium where you can discover all the creatures that live in the North Sea. There are also a few museums. The Museumschip Hr. Ms. Mercuur floating museum is particularly worth a visit, where you will learn all about life on board a Navy ship. Museum Scheveningen will take you back in time and you also get the opportunity to climb the lighthouse. If you like modern art, visit the Sculptures by the Sea Museum (Museum Beelden aan Zee). Scheveningen is also home to the Circustheater musical theatre where you can enjoy large musical productions, and in 2011 the musical of Mary Poppins will be performed in this impressive theatre. Activities in Scheveningen

Scheveningen has everything to offer in the area of sports, with tennis, sailing, surfing, sport fishing and diving. The sea in itself is a challenge. Advanced divers can also dive for ship wrecks in the North Sea.

Visit the indoor shopping mall Palace Promenade on the beach, the Keizerstraat in the old centre and the Skihut, sports fashion specialists for more than forty years, at the harbour.

From hedonists to connoisseurs, Scheveningen has something to offer everyone. You will find the tastiest fish in the harbour area. The harbour has a wide variety of restaurants, bistros and outdoor cafés overlooking the water, where you can enjoy a delicious meal or a drink, whatever your budget.

There is always something going on at the beach in Scheveningen, both summer and winter. Scheveningen has a great number of charming beach pavilions where you can relax and enjoy yourself, have a meal or a drink, and some pavilions have dances going on in the evening.

Events in Scheveningen

Flag Day (Vlaggetjesdag) is celebrated every year in June in and around the first and second harbour of Scheveningen, to announce the arrival of the Hollandse Nieuwe fresh herring. In 2011 this event will be held on Saturday 11 June.

In the summer, there are also many events taking place such as surfing events, beach festivals and the renowned kite festival.
