Information about Enkhuizen

The history of the United East India Company, or VOC for short, is still clearly visible in Enkhuizen. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the VOC was the largest trading company in the world, traveling to Asian countries with its magnificent ships to trade. Its favorable location on the IJsselmeer made it attractive to establish a "Chamber" of the VOC here. The Drommedaris, the defense tower at the harbor, and the center with its historic buildings are reminders of this prosperous time.

The Location and Surroundings of Enkhuizen

Located on the IJsselmeer and surrounded by the West Frisian Omringdijk lies the beautiful old VOC town of Enkhuizen along with Hoorn and Medemblik. Also called "The Historical Triangle. Enkhuizen is a town where time has stood still in some places. The center still has the atmosphere of the Golden Age. Enkhuizen is rich in a beautiful walking and cycling area. Take a look at all the street names and discover the beautiful West Frisian language.

What to do in Enkhuizen

It goes without saying that water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves here. The modern marinas are fully equipped and a trip to the center is easily made. Not surprisingly, many vessels of the brown fleet have their home port here. But also the beautiful surroundings invite you to go for lovely walks or view nature from a bicycle. Families with young children should definitely not miss out on Fairytale Wonderland!

Art and Culture

There is no shortage of culture either. In the Zuiderzee Museum, artisans display their work and you get an impression of life at sea. The Flessenscheepjesmuseum, Visserijmuseum and Enkhuizer Almanakmuseum are also worth a visit.

Shopping in Enkhuizen

You can store to your heart's content in the atmospheric center of Enkhuizen. Various stores have established themselves in the pretty little streets, from toys to fashion and from household to gift stores. Every first Sunday of the month the stores are also open.
